Sometimes siblings live all over the country and the world and they only have a few days where they are all together to have a portrait taken. In this case they one lived in London, Manhattan, and Virgina and they were all together around Christmas. This was my first beach portrait taken in December, I did this on the 23rd. Luckily it wasn't too cold. It was pretty windy but the wind was going toward the ocean but the dunes in Surf City had a dip (from Hurricane Irene) and the wind was going over us so we weren't effected by the wind at all! The guys drove all the way up North Jersey to have this done for their parents, which of course makes them awesome children! We all had a blast and I think it shows up in the portraits. It's been a fantastic summer photographing wonderful families up and down the beaches of the New Jersey Shore. Although I photograph most of my beach portraits in Long Beach Island (LBI) I do go up and down the Jersey Shore, this year I've photograph a good amount of families in the Lavallette and Sea Girt areas. I found a secret spot in Long Beach Island that allows me to photograph families over an hour earlier then I typically do. The reason for this is because I found a few homes that are very close to the ocean and these homes block the sun and cast a nice big shadow on the beach. This is perfect for people with very small children who may go to sleep by 8pm. As some of you know I typically start my beach sessions an hour before sunset, so this mean often I am starting at 7:30. In this secret location I can start at 6:15! Family Beach Portrait Photographer at the Beaches of the NJ Shore.

As many of you know I do a ton of beach portraits on the beaches of Long Beach Island, however I do work (if you can call it work) up and down the coast from Wildwood to Sandy Hook to everywhere in between such as Sea Girt, Bay Head, Spring Lake, Rumson, and Monmouth Beach. For many reasons beach portraits are my favorite type of portraiture. One of the main reasons is because at the beach, extended families are often vacationing together and everybody is in a good mood, they are away from the rat race.......for now. I know from first hand that families don't always get along, but it's nice to see the kids suck it up for their parents. (Did I really go there? But you know what I mean....I am sure of it). It's always a blast, and by the end of the portrait session it feels like I've known the families for a lifetime. It's hard to explain, but I've been even asked to go out to dinner with them afterwards! I promised myself if anyone ask me this year I am going to say YES. So don't ask unless you mean it! This year has been a fantastic year photographing families across New Jersey. One of the greatest parts about being a Location Portrait Photographer (instead of having a store front) is that it allows me to do all types of portrait photography. I really feel that's important to my "mental health" and to my clients. I've worked in a studio as many of you know for 13 years, and I think you end up getting burnt out, and also the work becomes a little "cookie cutterish". My beach portraits up and down the Jersey Shore line has grown more then I ever have expected. I am already booking for next year. Beach Portraits in the Rain! (Long Beach Island Photographer)

If you are in New Jersey then you know about the awful weather that we've been getting. It's literally raining every day! I've been lucky enough to get all my beach taken portraits on Long Beach Island so far. On Saturday I had a couple of sessions scheduled later in the evening however later Friday night I realized it was suppose to get real bad during the day and evening and the morning there was only a 30 percent chance of rain. This was the only possible day both of my client's were able to do their portraits since everyone would be around. So I woke up extra to get to Long Beach Island extra early (left about 7am) and took a chance hoping they were able to do it first thing in the morning when the weather was suppose to be OK. When I was close to LBI started to make the phone calls to see if they could do it in the morning and I was able to schedule them, one at 9 am and one at 10 30 am. It started to rain right before my later session and it was a big group. They were troopers and dealt with it and we go some great portraits, one group of 17 including the the grandparents two dogs, and each individual family! Take a look! In photoshop I made the ocean in the above image with a little more blue. Since a bad rain storm was rolling in the ocean wasn't as blue as usual. I will do this to there finished order.

It was literally raining in the above image and it got worse. But you would never know! I will just have to retouch the rain drops out of their shirts!

These portraits were taken on the beaches of Long Beach Island. This was another beautiful day on the island where the light was just right and breeze was perfect. Since there were two little guys I brought some Adirondack Chairs so I could get a little more variety in the posing. Sometimes when small kids are sitting on the sand by themselves they try to dump the sand over their head. It's always a little further then I think from when I make the left turn (you know what I mean) but it's well worth it. Here is another image I came across just a little while ago that I took last year. These were taken in Avalon, NJ which is a beautiful beach town that is filled with mostly families and a lot of shops. It's a lot like Long Beach Island. The below portraits were part of a big group that I photographed. The lighting is PERFECT. A perfect evening doesn't always happen at the beach, where the sky is clear, the wind is calm, but this day it was. I believe it was taken toward the end of the summer. This was a great session that was taken on the Beaches of LBI. There is a lot of variety, casual, relaxed posing, and a lot of out of control fun pictures! I noticed today that it wasn't completely dark until about 6pm. It always amazes me that in July I don't typically start my portrait session until 7:30pm and gets completely dark at about 9pm! I am so ready for some spring portraits and of course hanging in Long Beach Island photographing families up and down Long Beach Island BLVD! Over the years I have watched and photographed a lot of weddings at Long Beach Island. The ceremony on the beaches of LBI is one of the most beautiful places to get married at. I also get a lot of calls when people are having small intimate weddings and they only want the ceremony photographed and some family portraits right afterwards.
